Colegio San José demands that the authorities attend school

Through a note sent to the Mayor, Ana Meiners, they explain that this situation affects the cognitive and spiritual development of students and that school is not a place of contagion. The respectful letter was made public by the institution and is signed by the directors of all levels and the legal representative.

Here is the communication sent to the Mayor of Hope to manage the return of school attendance:

Esperanza, June 4, 2021.

Those who subscribe, members of the Management Team of the Colegio “San José” in the city of Esperanza, address you, and through you to whom it may concern, in order to send you our concerns, concerns and concerns regarding the situation. of education in our country and particularly looking at our city.

After fourteen months of pandemic and seeing how our freedoms and rights are frequently restricted and, above all, the rights and needs of our students, the “true treasures” of the country, we address you, with respect and humility, in order that from his place of government he helps us to make our claim heard.

We all know that the impact of the closure of schools, without being able to count on face-to-face classes, has deepened inequalities and caused multiple damage to the “essential dimensions” of our students. Without a doubt, it is they, the most vulnerable, who suffer the worst consequences. With concern we observe changes in their emotional situation, in their vision of the world, in their interpersonal relationships, in their habits, in their moods, which interferes with their cognitive and spiritual development.

We are in a position to provide concrete evidence on how the learning of our students, beyond the pharaonic effort of the teachers to maintain the pedagogical and affective bond through the virtual classes throughout the year 2020, have been harmed. We must be aware that there are habits, skills and competencies that are only developed correctly in that wonderful personal encounter of students with their teachers and with their peers. The school, with its traditional model of face-to-face classes, fundamentally during childhood and adolescence, has an irreplaceable role in the integral development and well-being of our children and adolescents.

We are also convinced that a school institution, where health protocols are respected and all necessary measures are taken to preserve the health of its members, is not a place of contagion. Public policies must focus and point to other areas where people develop their lives and that do need to be ordered and controlled.

For all that has been said, we consider that it is necessary and convenient to return to the careful presence, so that students and teachers have the possibility of realizing that personal and sacred encounter that produces the miracle of the educational fact.

Knowing your interest in the education of future professionals and good men, we await your help and intervention and we take the opportunity to greet you fraternally in the Love of the Divine Word.
