Glasses at the ready: Thursday partial eclipse | Inland

Between ten to half past eleven and half past two in the afternoon, the moon passes exactly in front of the sun. This is happening for the first time since March 20, 2015. The sun will initially be partially obscured on the right by the moon’s shadow, after which the top of the sun will be covered around 12:23 p.m. Eventually the shadow to the left of the sun disappears.

At the height of the eclipse, 17 percent of the total solar surface is covered. Even during such an eclipse, it is harmful to the eyes to look at the sun for a long time. For this reason, it is recommended to wear eclipse glasses if you want to view the eclipse.

Although clouds will also pass in front of the sun, it is expected that we will see a large part of the eclipse. However, it won’t be completely clear because of this.

Next Eclipse

Where the previous solar eclipse was last seen six years ago, we have to wait a lot less this time. The next eclipse will take place on October 25, 2022. The sun will then be eclipsed by a maximum of about 22 percent.
