On the contrary, the lowest averages were in the Canary Islands, specifically in San Cristóbal de la Laguna (0.89 children per woman), Telde (0.95) and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (0.96). It also refers to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (0.96), Gijón (0.97), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (0.97), Avilés (1.02), Cádiz (1.02), Oviedo (1 , 02), Ourense (1.03), Cerdanyola del Vallès (1.04), Ferrol (1.05), Fuengirola (1.06), Torrelavega (1.06), Vigo (1.06) and A Coruña (1.07).
The INE defines the average number of children that a woman residing in a municipality would have throughout her fertile life if she maintains the same fertile intensity by age as that observed in a specific year in that municipality.
