This is to announce my retirement from touring and from working in the record business. I’ve gotten older and I’m tired. So it’s time for me to hang up my nipple tassels, having truly given my all. NVDA in 2022 will be my last release. And there’ll be no more touring or promo.

Her new and eleventh album, No Veteran Dies Alone (NVDA), is expected to be released in January 2022. “That will be my last record. There will be no tour and don’t expect any promotion work from me. I have always given everything I have.”

The controversial O’Connor announced last fall that her tour she had planned for this year would not take place. She first wanted to be treated for addiction and mental problems.

“I went through six really tough years. This year they came to an end and now it’s time to recover,” the singer shared on Twitter in November. “This year I lost someone I loved and it touched me so much that for a short time I was addicted to a drug other than weed – which I’ve been addicted to for 34 years.”

The Irish woman, who has gone through life as Shuhada Sadaqat since her conversion to Islam, experienced various traumas in her youth. She also came into contact with violence several times. “After that I immediately went into music. I never learned how to live a normal life.”

She asked her fans and her business contacts for understanding, because “the music industry shows little compassion for artists who have to postpone something because of mental health problems. If this means the end of my career, so be it. I only have one life and I have to be careful with it.”
