The Portuguese Vasco Ribeiro failed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, when he was eliminated this Saturday in the ninth play-off round of the World Surfing Games, taking place in El Salvador.
Vasco was eliminated in a close heat against the Peruvian Miguel Tudela (14.30 points) and the German Leon Glatzer (14.16). The Portuguese finished with 13.53 points.
«We live another historic day for Portuguese surfing with Teresa’s qualification [Bonvalot] and from Yolanda [Sequeira]. The day ends in the worst way because Vasco Ribeiro was prevented from continuing in the competition. He did enough to pass, but the judges did not score him as he deserved,” said coach David Raimundo, quoted in a statement.
