This week you have obviously gone through a painful ordeal for you. Your Minister of the Economy, once again a simple deputy, put it well: he left his post so as not to be “toxic” for you.
Yesterday, I wrote: “Pierre Fitzgibbon should have put his splendor in the closet and take the example of François Legault, his friend, also a millionaire, but humble, without this brutal flamboyance which is perceived as disdain. […]. »
Obviously, you had trouble controlling your emotions in the chamber while trying to defend your minister in front of the opposition parties too happy to destabilize you.
Because you knew them. You, moved by anger, recalled that the PQ government of which you were a part was not interested in the economy, only in sovereignty. This is exactly what the parliamentary leader of the PQ, Pascal Bérubé, was waiting for, too happy to scratch your image.
Money
Dominique Anglade, the leader of the Liberal Party, challenged you by declaring that the real issue is that our former minister did not want to lose too much money. Now, it raised your blood pressure. Because you know that many Quebecers have no particular affection for the “rich” in general and for the French-Canadian business bourgeoisie in particular. In this regard, the designation “born for a bun” has left its mark until today. Damn money remains a trap in politics.
As for the spokespersons for Québec solidaire, you knew they were ecstatic. Finally, these anti-capitalists with a delusional economic program found the perfect excuse to infuriate you, and, they hope, to eat into a few more voters in the CAQ in the next election.
By deciding yesterday to vote against the report of the Ethics Commissioner, your government indicates how this file overwhelms you.
File too personal
However, since March 2020, you, Mr. Prime Minister, have been able to hold Quebec at arm’s length and lead it towards deconfinement with talent and skill by managing to leave your moods in the closet. Alas! as they say in Quebec, you take the Fitzgibbon affair too “personal”. Your long political experience should allow you to regain a composure, failing which the energy to govern normally again risks failing you.
All heads of state and government have suffered from the pandemic. We know who are the strong and who are the weak. You are among the first, as evidenced by the still massive and exceptional support that citizens give you. You are the envy of most leaders in the West.
The three opposition parties have nothing to lose. They will not stop setting all possible traps for you. Low blows and demagoguery will be permanent. It would be absurd for you to crack at the end of this exceptional course which has forced your opponents, even the fiercest, to recognize your performance. All the citizens of Quebec need to be supported over the coming months. So it would be wise to take some rest with your loved ones, your wife first and foremost. Because it would be a shame if anger made you deviate from the measured behavior of a Head of State that was yours.
