Saint-Jérôme, June 3, 2021
The deputy for Saint-Jérôme, Youri Chassin, announces, on behalf of the Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, that the project to acquire and install a positron emission tomograph coupled with a technology computed tomography (PET / CT) at the Saint-Jérôme Regional Hospital has been authorized.
This announcement was eagerly awaited in the Laurentians region, which does not currently have such a device. Approximately 3,500 diagnostic exams will be performed annually, allowing many patients to access this service in their own region, instead of having to travel.
In order to begin the implementation of this new service, an initial investment of $ 2 million has been allocated. This will allow the development of plans and specifications and the performance of work to accommodate the TEP / TDM. Additional funding for the purchase and installation of equipment and furniture, as well as for the operation of the service, will also be granted subsequently by the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
Remember that a PET-CT can detect the presence of metabolic abnormalities and locate them very precisely. This technology is very useful, especially in certain cases of cancer, where an early diagnosis can make all the difference in the effectiveness of the care and treatment undertaken.

“I am very happy to be able to confirm the addition of this cutting-edge device to the service offering of the Saint-Jérôme Regional Hospital. It was about time, since the Laurentians region did not have PET / CT. This device will allow people in the region to benefit from the best possible diagnostic services in Saint-Jérôme, rather than having to travel to another region, in particular to help choose the best treatment plan for the patient. This is a considerable gain, which comes in the wake of the major modernization project underway. “
