MAKASSAR—Acting Governor of South Sulawesi (Sulsel), Andi Sudirman Sulaiman reminded the public to increase awareness of the spread of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF).
Various preventive and anticipatory steps early on. Among them by applying the 4M Plus movement.
Namely draining water reservoirs at least once a week, burying used items that can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, closing water reservoirs so they don’t become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and monitoring larvae regularly.
“Meanwhile, plus can be done in additional ways, such as avoiding mosquito bites by using mosquito repellent and using mosquito nets while sleeping,” said Andi Sudirman, Friday (4/6/2021).
He explained that the 4M plus method is very effective in preventing the spread of dengue fever. “The 4M plus method is an effective effort of the community’s healthy lifestyle to prevent dengue,” he explained.
He invites us to jointly promote healthy lifestyles, especially at this time during the Covid-19 pandemic. So health becomes the main thing to pay attention to.
“Let’s work together to promote healthy living behaviors in the community down to the village level in preventing the potential for transmission of dengue disease,” he said.
The Acting Governor hopes that all parties cooperate with each other to monitor and report if there are indications of dengue symptoms.
“I hope the cooperation of all parties to report if there are indications of dengue symptoms so that health workers can immediately handle them,” he concluded
Meanwhile, the Head of the Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Section at the South Sulawesi Health Service, Dr. Erwan Tri Sulistyo, said that the South Sulawesi Health Office had appealed to all levels in the district/city to empower the community.
“We invite you to do the one house one jumantik movement. That is monitoring larvae in the house by family members. Several steps have been taken in areas such as in Pinrang, inviting the community to do community service, cleaning the environment where mosquitoes breed before fogging is carried out,” he said.
His party is still waiting for an update on the DHF case report. However, from several regions that reported, there was an increase in two areas.
“The trend of increasing cases seems to be increasing, especially in Sidrap Regency and Makassar City. We were instructed to do fogging, we also helped by lending fogging tools,” he explained.
It is known that dengue fever is caused by dengue virus infection which is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes.
Common symptoms include high fever that persists for days, diarrhea, and vomiting accompanied by headaches and muscle aches.
