Gianluigi Donnarumma will leave AC Milan Next season. Rossoneri striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic regrets the departure of the 22-year-old goalkeeper from the San Siro.
Donnarumma’s contract expires on June 30. He has not signed a new contract offered by Milan, because there is no common ground about his salary increase.
Milan only offers 8 million Euros per season, while Donnarumma wants more than that. In the end, Milan gave up and brought in his replacement, namely Mike Maignan. The French goalkeeper has been officially contracted until 2026.
Now Donnarumma had to move to find a new club. Of course it will not be difficult, considering his status as the Italian national team goalkeeper and also his young age. Just look for a club that is willing to meet his salary demands.
Even so, Ibrahimovic still regret the breakup Milan and Donnarumma. The Swedish veteran thinks Donnarumma should become a legend Rossoneri in the future, staying there until retirement.
“I’m sorry for what happened to Gigio. I ask you guys, ‘how much does he deserve?’ He came through the Milan academy, he can be the goalkeeper of this club for the next 20 years,” Ibrahimovic told The Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Maybe not until 20 years, because he is not Ibra. But he is the best goalkeeper in the world. He could be Mr Milan, like (Paolo) Maldini. But yes, the relationship requires commitment from both parties.”
“I will tell him to stay at Milan until the end,” Ibrahimovic said of the future Donnarumma.
Ibrahimovic himself has extended his contract at Milan. It will last until the end of next season.
