On the A4, we control the weight of moving trucks
Eric Klein, head of the metrology and road traffic engineering division at Cerema-Est (Center for studies and expertise on risks, the environment, mobility and planning) is also carrying out tests on the A4, near Saint-Avold. They consist in developing an automated control of the loading of heavy goods vehicles with weighing equipment in motion (EPM).
Their purpose: to be able to control the weight of the trucks without stopping them and to limit the use of customs officers. These tests should be completed this summer 2021. The process, in the process of being certified by the National Testing Laboratory (LNE), could be generalized throughout France within two years.
In Alsace, measurement tests for exceptional convoys are continuing to “achieve an accuracy of plus or minus 15%”, comments Eric Klein. The facility could be operational in two or three years. And why not interest other territories …
