hydrogen

To become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050 – that is Europe’s declared goal. In order to achieve this goal and thus halt climate change, net greenhouse gas emissions are to be reduced to zero. This should be achieved by renewable / regenerative energies gradually replacing fossil fuels such as oil, coal and gas. In this change, hydrogen will be an important component.

Hydrogen is a versatile energy carrier. It can be used as an emission-free fuel in mobility. As a storage device, it balances out fluctuating renewable energies and ensures the efficient supply of electricity and heat in the future. It forms the basis for alternative fuels, especially for aviation, and can be used as a process gas in industry. It can therefore be used across sector boundaries and offers great synergy potential for efficient use of resources.

The use of hydrogen opens up new opportunities for the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The reduction of emissions increases the quality of life and the attractiveness of the region. The establishment of a cross-sectoral hydrogen economy provides the breeding ground for new technologies and business models, which will secure the business location and prosperity (link to the potential study) in the long term.

The aim of the activities in the Rhine-Neckar region is therefore to move ahead on the way to environmentally friendly mobility and energy supply in accordance with the plans and specifications of the federal government and Europe and to establish hydrogen as an important component of the energy transition.

The Rhein-Neckar Metropolitan Region GmbH acts as an intermediary between business, politics, science and the population when it comes to implementing national and international requirements. Through their network work, concrete projects emerge, which in turn make hydrogen technology visible and tangible to the public.
