After the masks, the Tissages de Charlieu in the Loire are experiencing a new adventure

The SME installed in the north of the Loire has just been awarded a nice contract. It was chosen by the Auchan group to produce the future shopping bags for the stores. A new adventure for society

It is a new adventure, which Les tissages de Charlieu in the Loire is getting ready to experience. From the start of the first containment, in March 2020, the company had restarted its looms on the way to produce masks and deal with the shortage.

But while masks are now part of everyday life, the site has bounce. The Auchan group will now have it manufactured on the Loire site, recycled textile bags which will replace the traditional plastic bags sold at the cash desk.

Exit Asia, Auchan’s bags will be ligériens

In all, 10 million bags will be produced per year from autumn 2021 on the Loire site. “We are associated within the framework of an alliance where we will produce, not polypropylene bags as in Asia but 100% recycled textile bags, made at home, in Charlieu, by garment robots, in order to remain competitive in price term“‘, explains Éric Boël, director of the Charlieu weavings.

These bags will be in cotton and polyester and they will take over from the bags that come from Asia. We are going from 100% plastic to 100% recycled. We will save 4 kilos of CO2 per bag and we are investing more than 20 million euros in the French economy“, adds Éric Boël.

Ultimately, a hundred people will be recruited. In other words, the Loire company, which now has 70 employees, will more than double the number of its employees thanks to this partnership with Auchan.
