Houthalen-Helchteren –

During checks in Houthalen-Helchteren and Bree, the police confiscated a total of 107 neglected animals. The local police of the CARMA zone (Genk, As, Oudsbergen, Zutendaal, Houthalen-Helchteren, Bree, Kinrooi and Bocholt) announced this on Thursday. These included dogs, chickens and two pot-bellied pigs.

The resident at the first address in Houthalen-Helchteren had already received a warning about the neglect of his animals, but did not follow up. In a forest near the residence, the police found 106 severely neglected animals in cages and among a mountain of waste. The animals lived in very bad conditions.

All animals were confiscated. Two dogs have been taken in by the animal shelter in Genk. In addition, 12 ducks, 32 chickens and roosters, 50 pigeons, 5 geese, 2 pot-bellied pigs, 2 sheep and 3 guinea fowl were taken care of by the Oudsbergen Nature Aid Center.

At the second address in Bree, the police confiscated a skinny, limping cat. The animal was taken care of by the non-profit organization Dieren in Nood in Kinrooi.

Both owners will be questioned later. The police prepared a report.
