Coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team won at home against MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg with 81:78 (37:39) and is now 2-1 ahead in the best-of-five series. Three victories are necessary to reach the finals. The top scorer of the game was Ludwigsburg’s Jaleen Smith with a personal best of 29 points, the best throwers in Munich were Vladimir Lucic and Wade Baldwin with 22 points each.
Balanced game
A balanced game developed in the Audi Dome right from the start. Bayern made too many ball losses in the first half (9), but Ludwigsburg weakened on the offensive and failed to break away. The hosts went into the break with a two-point deficit.
After the break, it was a duel at eye level before Bayern turned it up at the end of the third section and took a double-digit lead with a 13-0 run (57:47). Shortly before the end, the giants fought their way up to one point again (79:78), but the Munich team couldn’t take the victory away.
The possibly decisive game four will be played on June 4th in the Bavarian capital (8.30 p.m. / Magentasport).
