Suara.com – Researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences Research Center for Chemistry (LIPI) Prof. Andria Agusta said there are two kinds of endophytic extracts from mushroom Indonesia which shows biological activity for anti-SARS-CoV-2 causes COVID-19.
“From a little screening, we found two types of mushroom extracts that can inhibit the growth of SARS-CoV-2 in vitro,” Andria said in a virtual seminar “International Webinar on Natural Products and Tropical Medicine”, Jakarta, Wednesday.
LIPI conducted a study to explore anti-infective metabolites from Indonesian endophytic fungi.
Andria said that the screening process for more than 100 types of endophytic extracts from the collection or library of extracts formed by LIPI showed activity for antimalarial and anti-SARS-CoV-2.

“A type of endophytic extract shows strong antimalarial activity. And there are two kinds of endophytic extracts that show anti-SARS-CoV-2,” said Andria, who is a graduate of Fukuyama University in Japan.
The screening process is carried out in collaboration with several research institutions.
Andria said the isolation and characterization of the metabolites that showed antiviral activation were being investigated at the LIPI laboratory.
Andria said research is still ongoing to find more potential candidates for future drug raw materials to support efforts to treat diseases including malaria. [Antara]
