Almost unanimously, the citizenship decided that fax machines should become obsolete in the Bremen administration. This analog technology is unsafe, no longer up-to-date and problematic in terms of data protection law, criticized many politicians.
The state parliament has decided to replace fax connections with secure electronic communication channels by 2023. Citizens could then contact the authorities via secure mobile phone messengers, for example. By eliminating fax technology, Bremen also saves almost 100,000 euros per year, it was said.
