Gijón City Council will evaluate the effectiveness of the ‘Mi Barrio’ program | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

The City Council of Gijón gets down to work and prepares a report on the use that the beneficiaries of the ‘Mi Barrio’ program are making of this extraordinary help to make a decision. The merchants adhering to the initiative denounced days ago that they are barely making expenses with these aid and that, on many occasions, the banks have kept the money to pay overdrafts. The council has begun to contact families to find out how they are using this money. They are doing it by talking to the 1,110 beneficiaries.

The Councilor for Rights and Social Welfare, Natalia González, assures that the cases in which the money has been kept by a bank are exceptions although they have detected cases of families who have had to face other expenses with the aid. Hence, after making the report, they study other alternatives:

The councilor recalls that at the end of the program, either on May 31 or at the end of the year, the beneficiaries will have to justify expenses made with this extraordinary help.
