Malaysian fighter jets intercept Chinese military aircraft, how did it happen?

The planes were identified by the RMAF defense radar in Sarawak at 11.53am local time. It is said that Chinese military planes it’s approaching Malaysian airspace in a “tactical formation” and flew within about 60 nautical miles of the coast.

“Airplanes in that formation use the same entry and exit points. The planes then change (direction), towards the Beting Patinggi Ali airspace which is important for the country,” the RMAF statement said.

The PLAAF aircraft then flew through the Singapore FIR before entering the airspace of the Malaysian maritime zone and the Kota Kinabalu FIR.

It said Chinese planes approached within 60 nautical miles of the Sarawak coast, “threatening Malaysia’s sovereignty”.

RMAF then placed a number of fighter jet Hawk 208 of squadron No. 6 in high standby.
