This season takes place Wimbledon, the prestigious Grand Slam in London, will take place from June 28th to July 11th 2021 and follows the conclusion of the Roland Garros in Paris a few days later, which was postponed for a week by the French government due to new restrictions.
Despite the return of the competitions, some constraints will be inevitable to avoid a new Covid-19 emergency: among these, the option to accommodate a reduced number of people, perhaps 25% of the total capacity.
Another will be to cancel the traditional day of rest for players who have to stay in a special bubble in a hotel made available for them: in particular, it is likely to be the renowned Park Plaza in the Westminster area.
However, the rules won’t be the same for everyone: The Daily Mail states that players with seeded players at the hotel will receive preferential treatment as they will receive the building’s 63 suites, which obviously have better views.
The Wimbledon message for players
Tennis players will not be able to leave their hotel but they recently received this message from the All England Club: “Player registration for the hotel has opened and we are working on it, depending on the different needs of the groups of players.”
In addition, it is possible that the athletes can bring all children and up to two members of their team. The last edition of the Wimbledon tournament, the most important tennis event in the world, took place from 1.
to 19 July 2019, in which the world number one Novak Djokovic triumphed in the men and the Romanian Simona Halep in the women. The last match of the men’s draw was particularly exciting and full of surprises when the Swiss Roger Federer, who was unable to use two match points on his serve, celebrated a sensational comeback in the fifth set.
Last year, due to the coronavirus emergency, the management of Wimbledon immediately decided to postpone the competition to 2021 in hopes of a calmer situation.
