Hungary have to make it to the European Championship without Dominik Szoboszlai. The Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, who will play in the RB Leipzig shirt from next season, is not fit enough to be part of the final squad for the European Championship. That is good news for former Ajax youth player Szabolcs Schön.
Schön came to Amsterdam in 2017, but left the club fairly quickly. After two years and with one match for Jong Ajax to his name, he returned to his native country to play for MTK Budapest. Here he made an impression. Last month, he completed a transfer to Major League Soccer club FC Dallas.
Schön’s place in the final selection of Hungary is partly due to the absence of Szoboszlai. Like Szoboszlai, Schön plays on the left side of the field. A very tough European Championship awaits Hungary. The country is in the ‘Pool of Death’ with Germany, Portugal and France.
