As elsewhere in Europe, the range of people to be vaccinated is being expanded in Latvia as well – from Tuesday, June 1, teenagers from the age of 12 can apply for their vaccine, reports TV3 Ziņas.
The decision to open a new group of persons to be vaccinated, namely young people aged 12-15, in Latvia comes immediately after the relevant information from the European Medicines Agency.
It confirmed the safety of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine last Friday. As before for 16-year-olds.
According to the data of the Vaccination Project Bureau, less than 10% of those in this group have received the opportunity to receive a vaccine so far. Although children and adolescents with Covid-19 suffer less frequently and mainly asymptomatically, their vaccination will contribute to the general immunity of the society. At the same time, this should not be seen as a reason not to vaccinate other family members.
“The rate of adult vaccination and awareness of the need for adult vaccination should certainly not be allowed to slow down,” emphasized Dace Zavadska, Chairwoman of the National Council for Immunization.
Applying young people for vaccination is not significantly different from applying for adults. This can be done on the portal Manavakcina.lv, by calling 8989 or see your family doctor.
“The presence of a parent or legal representative, an identity document, a document about the child is required,” explained Eva Juhņēviča, Head of the Vaccination Project of the National Health Service.
Important note: Adolescents over the age of 14 can apply Covid-19 vaccination themselves without parental consent.
Patients are also invited to be vaccinated. This can be done as early as the 14th day after returning to daily life. As for the possible side effects, they are similar in adults.-
“Injection site pain, tiredness, muscle aches, fever. No others were identified, ”confirmed Elita Poplavska, Head of the Medicines Registration Department of the State Agency of Medicines.
There are about 82,000 young people in the newly opened age group. According to the Vaccination Project Office, vaccination of adolescents with Pfizer / BioNTech will not result in a shortage of vaccines for adults.
