Against Greet Minnen, Kvitova was already on the brink of elimination on Sunday. Our compatriot won the 1st set and ran out to 3-0 in the tiebreak of set 2. But Kvitova still took the game completely to herself.
Afterwards, the Czech top tennis player fell during her media duties. She injured her ankle.
“Unfortunately, after an MRI scan and a lot of consultation with my team, I made the difficult decision not to continue playing,” says Kvitova.
“It’s unbelievable bad luck, but I’m staying strong and will do my best to recover for the grass season.”
Kvitova, last year’s semi-finalist in Paris, would face the Russian Elena Vesnina in the second round.
