The state of the Vernaison Bridge becomes a political issue. The president of the AURA region, Laurent Wauquiez, on Monday proposed 5 million euros for the immediate reconstruction of the bridge. This Monday, May 31, Laurent Wauquiez, the president of the AURA region campaigning for his own re-election, criticized the lack of consultation between the Métropole de Lyon and the mayors concerned by the renovation of the Vernaison bridge, and denounced the project of temporary bridge defended by the Metropolis.

Bridges fall under the jurisdiction of the Metropolis and not of the region. A reality which gives a very political character to the proposal of the candidate Laurent Wauquiez, to co-finance up to 5 million euros for the region, the reconstruction of the bridge.
It now seems unlikely that the environmental majority will accept this financial aid from the AURA region chaired by the right-wing candidate. In the meantime, the bridge, already prohibited for heavy goods vehicles, will be one-way from June 23 (Vernaison-Solaize).
