The Los Angeles Lakers will probably have to do without Anthony Davis in game 5 of the first round series against the Phoenix Suns. The Big Man pulled a groin strain at the 92: 100 bankruptcy in Game 4 at the weekend, as an MRI confirmed on Monday.
Wie Shams Charania (The Athletic) reported with reference to anonymous sources, the 28-year-old played in game 5 on Wednesday night (from 4 a.m. live on DAZN) “unlikely”. The Big Man is officially listed as “questionable”, but Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN) reports a certain pessimism in the Lakers camp about the availability of Davis.
Knee problems in the brow had been a problem before Game 4, but Davis made it clear that he would not sit out. Shortly before half-time he injured his groin while trying to dunk and was unable to participate in the second half. He finished the party with just 6 points at 2/9 out of the field.
“These guys are great competitors, they will always tell you, ‘I’m ignoring this, I’ll be there.’ So we’ll see, “said Lakers coach Frank Vogel in a video conference on Monday. “We’ll see how his groin feels on Tuesday and we’ll make a wise decision. But he’s in good spirits.”
According to Vogel, Davis will fly to Phoenix with the Lakers and seek further treatment. Even if AD should miss the game, a match in game 6 on Sunday night is possible according to media reports. Over the series, the eight-time all-star put on an average of 21.8 points, 8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks at 40.3 percent from the field.
