In pictures: commemorations across Canada for the victims of Kamloops

Since the terrible discovery last week, communities across Canada have been in mourning. People gather, teddy bears are placed in front of houses, and makeshift memorials have been created in several towns. These are often hundreds of small pairs of shoes, each representing one of the children whose remains were found.

The flags of federal buildings as well as the flags of provincial buildings in British Columbia are at half mast and will remain so for the next few days.

Serious reconciliation involves much more than symbolic gestures like lowering our flags and we are committed to doing this work., indicates the province on social media.
