Fact Check: Video of a lunar eclipse at the North Pole?

Jakarta (ANTARA/JACX) – A 36-second video circulated on Twitter showing footage of what is claimed to be a lunar eclipse at the North Pole.

The video, as of Monday (31/5), has been watched 18,500 times and re-shared up to 1,100 times. Thousands of Twitter users have also responded to the thread.

The following is the narrative contained in the upload of the Twitter account owner @91matzul1:
“Real Lunar Eclipse. Imagine sitting in this place during the day (between Russia and Canada at the North Pole) when the moon appears in this large size for 30 seconds & after blocking the Sun for 5 seconds appears. Glory be to God for his creation. Allahuakbar # Moonshot. “

Is it true that the video is an appearance of a lunar eclipse at the North Pole?

Explanation:

Researcher at Pussainsa LAPAN Andi Pangerang said the video was not a video of a lunar eclipse, but a simulation video when the moon was 10 times closer than it is now, referring to the official website. Kominfo.

Andi added that the video also could not be linked to the Total Lunar Eclipse (GBT) which occurred on May 26, 2021. The reason was that GBT could not be seen at the two poles of the earth.

From this explanation, it can be concluded that the video narrative of the appearance of a lunar eclipse at the North Pole is a hoax.
