Although it was scheduled for this Monday in the Social Development Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, the vote on the Universal Emergency Family Income was postponed to this Tuesday after the government announced that it is studying to improve the proposal that was made a few days ago
The president of the instance, the socialist deputy Jaime Naranjo, said that the Executive made the request during this day and was optimistic about the changes that the government could make to the initiative.
“I understand that if you have asked us to postpone the vote, it is because the government intends to collect some of the concerns that we brought to the attention of the Social Development Commission in relation to the amount and duration of the IFE contribution,” said the socialist parliamentarian .
He also added that “I hope we have a positive response from the government in order to reach the citizens with a generous and massive IFE.”

The Minister of Social Development, Karla Rubilar, meanwhile, said that she hopes that the initiative will be voted on as soon as possible in both chambers and pointed out that “we will be able to have a payment extended to 100% of the RSH with a higher amount and with greater security of families to be able to reach at least until August and even extend it more if necessary in this month of June ”.
It should be noted that the universal IFE was announced last week by President Sebastián Piñera includes 100% of the Social Registry of Households for the months of June, July and August.
The amounts announced by the Executive are on the poverty line and range from $ 177,000 for families of one person and $ 467,000 for a family of four. However, the announcement generated criticism from the opposition, who considered the proposal insufficient, both in terms of amount and coverage.
The Treasury stated that to access the benefit, you only have to be registered in the Social Registry of Households and the process is automatic.
