Coronavirus in Spain: vaccination, prior appointment, COVID passport, extension of ERTE … | May 26

THE KING VALUES THE ARRIVAL OF THE VACCINE AS THE BEGINNING OF THE END

Felipe VI has expressed this Wednesday his “deep appreciation” for the work that innovators have done during the pandemic and has been convinced that the vaccine against covid-19, and not the virus, will mark “the beginning of a new era.”

The king paid this tribute to the innovators during the presentation of the annual report of the Cotec Foundation, an entity created in 1990 at the initiative of Juan Carlos I, whose objective is to promote technological innovation in companies.

The event, held in the La Nave complex in Madrid, began with a tour of a sample of a ten respirators manufactured during the pandemic thanks to the citizens’ initiative and of public-private collaboration to alleviate the shortage of equipment in hospitals at the beginning of the health crisis.

“Some of these devices are saving lives today in countries on different continents, whose health systems, such as ours and that of so many other countries, have been overwhelmed at some point, “the monarch highlighted.

Faced with the threat of the pandemic, Don Felipe has valued the effort made by the innovators “without rest and, in many moments, without reward”, and putting their health at risk, such as the health workers and public servants who were in the front line when the coronavirus crisis broke out.

“Perhaps most of these innovators have not spent much time reflecting on what they have achieved,” said the king to convey his “sincere appreciation” to all of them.

“The beginning of a new age”

In the opinion of Felipe VI, innovation “sets the clock” of the human species and, in time, “it will be the vaccine, not the virus, that signals the beginning of the new era.”

He has emphasized that innovation has brought with it new rules and ways of relating that “have made life less difficult” and that allow us to face with “the energy and capacities necessary to be able to start the comeback.”

“Major crises do not respect time or distances. For this reason, in addition to accelerating the speed at which we innovate, we must print a new rhythm to the diffusion of innovations. We see it now with the vaccine and we will see it more and more frequency in other areas “, he reflected.

He was pleased that the presentation of the Cotec 2021 Yearbook could be in person, unlike last year.

“We are not all, nor are we as close as we would like, but here we are. And that is what matters. If everything continues as we wish, each time we will be more and we will be closer,” he confided.
