Four out of five Flemish people with an underlying condition are…

In Flanders, a vaccination rate of 80 percent has been achieved among people with an underlying condition. Flemish Minister of Health Wouter Beke and Prime Minister Jan Jambon report this on Sunday morning.

In the over-65s, there is a vaccination coverage of more than 99 percent (at least one dose). In addition, 95 percent of people with underlying conditions have received an invitation for vaccination, more than 80 percent have also been vaccinated. In the meantime, the next phase has already started, with the vaccination of the general population.

“That 80 percent is very important because we have always said: if people over 65 and people with underlying conditions have been vaccinated, important relaxations can take effect. That is important towards 9 June”, says Jan Jambon.

“We continue to do everything we can to offer everyone a first vaccine as soon as possible, despite the less good news about the deliveries in recent days. In this way we can already offer the Flemings the first important protection against the vaccine. The second vaccine also remains important for the degree of protection,” adds Wouter Beke.

Beke and Jambon also underline that more than one in two Flemings has now received a first injection. But Prime Minister Alexander De Croo already announced this news on Saturday evening. In a video on Twitter, the federal head of government announced that half of adult Belgians have received their first vaccination.

“The vaccination campaign is a success. A huge boost for all those who work in healthcare, but it also brings us to the freedom we all long for. I am happy that we in Flanders have reached the point of 50 percent vaccination so quickly,” Jambon added.

Beke and Jambon also underline that through projections on a few large buildings, the Flemish can follow how many vaccinations are planned and which milestones are achieved.
