Civilians were killed and injured due to explosions during daily activities.
Civilians on both sides of the contact line in the Donbas are dying mainly due to the detonation of unexploded ordnance. This is stated in the thematic report OSCE Special Monitoring Mission, published on Saturday 29 May.
“Civilians are killed and injured as a result of the detonation of mines, unexploded ordnance (UXO) and other explosive items while doing their daily activities,” the document says.
From November 2019 to March 2021, the SMM confirmed 76 civilian casualties from the bombing, according to the report. Of these, 20 people were killed and 56 were injured. More than 85% of the victims are men and boys (56 and 9, respectively), the rest are 10 women and 1 girl.
It is noted that civilians were killed and injured while working in the fields, walking along river banks, collecting firewood and at home.
