The announcement was made on Friday in a statement from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The United States has yet to appoint a new ambassador to Canada, and by then Arnold Chacon will be the top diplomat in the Biden administration in Ottawa.
He succeeds Katherine Brucker who had been appointed Charg d’Affaires by the administration of former President Donald Trump.
The statement said Arnold Chacon is a career diplomat who previously served as the Director General of the United States Foreign Service and United States Ambassador to Guatemala.
He will work to advance “the roadmap for a renewed partnership between the United States and Canada, including on climate change, the response to COVID-19, economic recovery and security concerns around the world and in the world. the region”.
