The Netherlands wants to send up to 750,000 AstraZeneca vaccines to Suriname | Abroad

The vaccines are then available, because the Dutch groups that are to receive AstraZeneca have already been vaccinated with them. Vaccine surpluses are distributed by the European Union to poorer countries through the Covax program. But because of the special bond between the Netherlands and Suriname, the cabinet wants to make this delivery separately from Covax.

Less than 600,000 people live in Suriname. A full vaccination requires two shots of AstraZeneca.

The Netherlands also sends oxygen, medicines and medical aids to the country “as soon as possible”. According to the ministry, there is now an urgent need for this. In the coming days, there will also be consultations between the two countries “about supply and demand.” Medical personnel from the Netherlands will probably also go to Suriname

Previously, the Netherlands also supplied ventilators, medication and personal protective equipment.
