As I revealed in January article, Horizon: Forbidden West is my most anticipated game this year. That is why, of course, I am the first to reveal today shots from playing the PS5 version of the game expected with great suspense. The resulting emotions are still breaking with me, I got a huge desire to immediately reinstall and go through the first part several times… but here are my key observations:
- It is a significantly follow-up continuation – the HUD, equipment improvement system, etc. seem to be preserved.
- New abilities related to vertical movement (anchor, parachute) work great.
- The beautiful nature of the first part is now even more beautiful, the robots even more detailed.
- The absolute star of the show – as in the first trailer – was the underwater passage.
- The diving mask allows extended passages below the water surface.
- The music is also extraordinary, building on strong melodies and imaginative throbbing electronics.
We didn’t find out the exact release date, but according to the official PlayStation Blog development follows plan.
Official description of the sample:
Horizon Forbidden West continues six months after the events of the game Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy, a machine hunter, travels west to investigate a mysterious and deadly mold. In these uncharted countries, he encounters strange new tribes and also encounters even more dangerous machines. Together with old friends and new guides, she must face this dangerous frontier to find the answers to save lives on Earth.
In the State of Play demonstration, Aloy sent her faithful friend Erend to the ruins of San Francisco to retrieve an important artifact. However, he quickly gets into trouble when he encounters a rebel faction of the Tenakth tribe – insidious warriors who somehow gained the ability to control machines. Aloy must go through ruins and fight many enemies to save her friend and continue on her way.
This dangerous and unknown country is full of challenges and threats, but Aloy will have new tools to help her along the way. Pullcaster speeds up climbing to get out of trouble quickly; Shiledwing (parachute) allows her to descend safely from a great height (or to surprise enemies from above); and with a diving mask awaits exploring a whole new underwater world. Not to mention the improvements to the Focus (virtual display), which will now show places suitable for climbing and will also provide the ability to control multiple machines for riding or fighting.
Speaking of fighting, Horizon Forbidden West emphasizes tactics and choice by providing players with a diverse arsenal of weapons. Aloyino’s faithful spear is good for melee combat and allows for new combos. Bows with specialized ammunition tear armor from machines and reveal their weaknesses. Glue grenades can be thrown from a slingshot and temporarily immobilize enemies. Together with many others, you can, of course, further improve these weapons.
Aloy won’t just fight people. The game also contains a large portion of new deadly machines. Sunwings (pterodactyls) in the sky, Clawstriders (raptors) and Tremortusks (mammoths) on the ground, Snapmaws (crocodiles) and smaller (it pays not to underestimate) Burrowers (?) In the water. And this is only the beginning, across a massive open world Horizon Forbidden West you will discover many more. You will have to fight smartly and creatively to defeat them.
