The various new variants of the Corona virus are categorized as variant of concern (VoC), which means watch out. One reason is thought to have the ability to spread faster.
Deputy Minister of Health (Deputy Health MinisterDr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono in a meeting with Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) gave an example of the transmission case that occurred in Cilacap, Central Java. Of the 20 Filipino crew members who docked from India, 14 cases were found with one of the VoC variants, namely the B1617 variant from India.
Contact tracing of the 14 cases found transmission in 31 health workers. Next, out of 31 cases for health workers, 12 cases were found for health workers and non health workers.
“So there are 49 cases infected from 14 cases. From 14 cases to 49 cases, it means that the R0 or the transmission rate is approximately 3.35 times compared to our target, the R0 should be less than 0.9 or a maximum of 1 , if we want to define a case that is not seriously contagious,” explained the Deputy Minister of Health, Thursday (27/5/2021).
According to the Deputy Minister of Health, the recent high rate of transmission is caused by two main factors. Apart from the mobility factor of residents during the Eid homecoming season, there are also factors that characterize the virus, which is indeed more easily transmitted.
“So this shows how aggressive the transmission of variant of concern this to others, “he said.
