Horizon Forbidden West was in focus during Sony’s State of Play broadcast Thursday night. The company served a scant quarter of an hour of gaming, in a video that you can see at the top of the article.
The video starts in the middle of a mission, with Aloy in search of his friend Erend. He has been captured by thugs, and thus a rescue operation is launched.
Next to the graphics, which are undeniably great, the video showed several of the news developer Guerrilla has introduced since Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy can, for example, use her focus scanner to show climbing points, she has a shield that acts as a paraglider and a mask that allows her to breathe underwater for as long as she wants.
As Guerrilla has hinted before, new beasts are also in place. The video introduces, among other things, a new type of Watcher, as well as an elephant-like thing that can carry several bad guys at a time.
Otherwise, there is a lot to draw attention to from its predecessor. Aloy uses a bow and arrow in battle against both humans and machines, she can hide in tall red grass and sneak away enemies in the east and west. Her spear can still be used to take control of some machines, which you can ride to get from place to place faster.
A final release date did not appear from the presentation. According to history manager Ben McCaw, the development work is still on schedule, but the team is still not quite ready to say anything about the date yet.
Horizon Forbidden West is coming to both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
