Holocaust exhibition “We Remember” opens in Dubai

The first exhibition on the Holocaust on the Arabian Peninsula has opened in Dubai. “We Remember” is the name of the show in the Museum Crossroads of Civilizations, which, according to the operators, is to become a permanent exhibition. “It is very important to us to focus on education about the tragedies of the Holocaust, because education is the antidote to ignorance,” said museum founder Ahmed Obaid al-Mansuri.

The ambassadors of Israel and Germany to the United Arab Emirates, Eitan Na’eh and Peter Fischer, were also present at the opening on Wednesday, as the newspaper “The National” reported today.

The privately run Museum Crossroads of Civilizations, founded in 2012, deals, among other things, with topics related to tolerance and multiculturalism. According to the operator, it is the first exhibition on the Holocaust on the Arabian Peninsula.

The Emirates, together with Bahrain, sealed diplomatic relations with Israel last September. The two oil-rich Gulf states promise each other economic advantages, but above all forge an alliance with Israel against their common archenemy Iran. The Emirates and Israel had already worked together on security issues.
