Torreón, Coahuila.- In the most recent campaign led by AC Mujeres Salvando Mujeres, at least 42 new cases of early-stage cancer were detected, studies were carried out on 3,000 women and the goal is to reach 5,000 throughout the Lagunera Region. The objective is that more people access this type of program that can save their lives.
Yolanda Jaramillo Rodríguez, president of this Civil Association, is a pathologist, clinical researcher, said that this program “Together against breast cancer” has made the difference between the life expectancies in women who suffer from the disease and that the studies were carried out on time and, among those who unfortunately have not had the opportunity to come to ask for more information.
“The Comarca Lagunera is a national red flag for breast cancer, because we have a number of cases with high mortality, what is the reason, the delay in which the patient is going to be checked, in being treated and also the ‘very little ‘detection in early stages; there is practically nothing in this area ”.
“In addition to this campaign, we made a call for a conference that is also part of the program, the objective is to detect early breast cancer lesions, we did two thousand mammograms and ultrasounds to the same number of patients and, those who found lesions were operated on surgically, some were cured one hundred percent because the cancer was detected very early and others were sent to their clinics for follow-up of their treatments, ”he explained.
“We in Mexico take 210 days between a patient deciding to go and starting with the specific cancer treatment, the WHO recommends 90 days, with our campaign we managed to lower that time to 50 days,” he explained in detail.
He said that to date the ultrasound and mammography program is still in force, as well as the mammography program, he pointed out that in the coming days they have a list of 40 women who will receive prostheses, “this in addition to the 96 that we delivered in the month of October In the past, we can probably give all of them this activity ”.
Jaramillo Rodríguez, maintains that it is a fight every day, because despite the fact that a ‘fight’ is being waged more like the Covid-19 pandemic, diseases such as breast cancer do not distinguish between social classes or who suffer from Covid or not.
“Many of these patients I say that between 30 or 40% are beneficiaries of the IMSS or ISSSTE, and these health institutions were not conducting detection campaigns, they were concentrated elsewhere, the surgeries were very delayed, what we did was the work that they were not doing at that time, “he explained.
