Rosny-sous-Bois: the theater still occupied by intermittents, a postponed festival

In Rosny-sous-Bois, it is still not possible to make a web. And the Silence festival, which was due to start this Friday, has been postponed to September. The Simenon cultural space, occupied since March 15 by a collective made up of intermittent entertainment workers and supporters, is still closed to the public.

Tirelessly, for more than two months, the collective has demanded the abandonment of the reform of unemployment insurance, to quote its main demand. Initially not opposed to this occupation, the mayor (LR) Jean-Paul Fauconnet has since informed them of his desire to see them leave. And not only orally: in mid-May, the elected official signed a municipal decree “giving notice to leave the premises without delay”. For the moment, the prefect of Seine-Saint-Denis has not granted the assistance of the public force, necessary for this evacuation. The occupants also seized a summary judge in order to overturn this municipal decree. Response expected early next week.

“We are very annoyed”

“The mayor agrees to meet the occupants but he posited as a prerequisite that the banner saying that he alone decided to cancel the reopening of the place be removed. However, they added another caricaturing it, assures his entourage. But the mayor remains open to discussion all the same. “And to repeat that any reopening is incompatible with the occupation:” No matter how much they assure the contrary, the decree is very clear, there can be no stagnation in the cultural space. However, the home they occupy must be used for the circulation of flows. “

“We are very annoyed. What we’re looking for is obviously not the cancellation of shows, explains Sébastien, a member of the Occupons Simenon collective. We feel held hostage by the mayor who tries to stigmatize us. This closure does not depend on us, the occupation is compatible with a reopening. It’s very sad. “

The Silence festival, which welcomes a thousand visitors across all the events, will be held on September 3, 4 and 5. As for the reopening date of the cinema, it has not yet been set.
