The Great Health Manifestation will hit the streets of Brussels on Saturday

The second edition of the Great Health Manifestation will be held on Saturday in Brussels. More than 60 European collectives, associations and unions have signed a call for international mobilization to protest against the underfunding of health systems. Several other European countries will also demonstrate.

It is the underfunding of the health sector that is in the sights. “Since 2019, we have been asking for changes that would ensure quality care accessible to all and correct working conditions for all staff.“, Explains Stephen O’Brien, of the collective La santé en Lutte. “Despite the crisis, which has clearly shown the importance of an efficient health service, the few improvements made by the government are so minimal that we see no change on the ground..”

According to La santé en Lutte, in order to guarantee users of quality care, several changes are necessary: “We must get the sector out of the market logic, strengthen the workforce, review management standards, improve working conditions and increase low wages“, Indicates the collective. “Health, our common good, is too often ignored in favor of private and financial interests.”

The participants will meet on May 29 at 3:00 pm at the Mont des Arts in Brussels. “It’s open to everyone,” says Stephen O’Brien. “Health professionals, users, citizens, etc. We expect around 3,000 people. ” To ensure that sanitary measures are respected, masks and hydroalcoholic gel will be distributed and participants will be divided into several groups.
