The sadness that overwhelms the community of the José Celestino Mutis de Bucaramanga school, in Santander, has to do with the early departure of one of its most beloved teachers, who, according to Vanguardia, died then spent 15 days in a hospital fighting a COVID-19 infection.
Sandra González Ramón was 41 years old, and the school sent a message of condolence in his web page to mourn the passing of a daughter, wife, mother, sister and teacher.
The rector of the school, Esperanza Tolosa, told the local media that the death of the ‘teacher’ “is an irreparable loss.” and stressed that the woman was an “example of love for her profession and dedication to students.”
“In virtuality, he tried too hard to implement methodologies according to the needs and interests of the children. Very loved and admired by children and parents ”, he added.
The reason why the teacher became synonymous with effort and improvement was, according to that medium, because he led a campaign to raise funds and donate cell phones for several of his students, who due to lack of resources did not have the necessary tools to take their virtual classes.
In addition, he “bought out of his pocket” a phone that he named as ‘the traveling cell phone’, since the device was rotated weekly among about 20 of the 35 students in charge.
“Every Monday he gave it to a different child and paid him the monthly fee for the internet. The applications were downloaded there. The condition was that the student connected during the week and took the opportunity to upload the assignments”González commented in an interview he gave earlier this year.
With that memory, and with the joyful moments they lived, students, teachers and parents say goodbye to the teacher who taught them how to overcome difficulties in the midst of the pandemic.
