A few weeks ago, the road workers of the Roads and Traffic Agency had only just poured a new section of bicycle path on the R4 in Ghent, when it was already pricey. A ‘weak fun’, Flemish for fun pants, left a trail of deep footsteps through the freshly poured concrete, Het Nieuwsblad writes.
It was the umpteenth time that the road workers had to deal with vandalism, aggression or lame pranksters. For Roads and Traffic, enough is enough. A photo was shared on social media on Wednesday to ask for a little more respect.
“We had placed a barrier well in advance for the site in question, on the cycle path of the R4 at the beginning of May,” says spokesman Jef Schoenmaekers. “He pointed out the work and indicated the diversion via the other side of the R4. Whoever walked by must have ignored that.”
‘bullied’
The piece of bicycle path was restored, but it is not an isolated case. Also at a yard in the Motorstraat in Sint-Amandsberg last month, a lot of people ignored the deposition without mercy.
“And that while the work is in full swing. The deposition was destroyed and some of our people were threatened or verbally abused when they confront people about their behaviour,” says Schoenmaekers. Roads and Traffic requires more respect.
