Top 20: These employers pay the most in Germany

Whether someone decides for a job depends to a large extent on the salary. The job platform Glassdoor has determined for t-online which companies are particularly generous.

Those who are highly qualified and experienced are usually rewarded with a higher salary than someone who does not have these advantages. But not only your own knowledge and skills play a role in the question of how much you earn. It also depends on the company.

A new analysis now shows which companies you should contact if you are looking for as much money as possible for your work. Glassdoor, one of the world’s largest job and recruiting platforms, has determined exclusively for t-online which companies in Germany have the highest basic salaries. You can see the result here in the following table:

The front runner is therefore the US management consultancy Bain & Company. There is an average of more than 100,000 euros gross per year. It is just under 3,500 euros less for the second-placed Nokia. That is still more than twice as much as the average gross basic salary of an employee in Germany. According to the Federal Statistical Office, this is 47,700 euros per year for 2020.

Third place in the ranking goes to Kearney, also a US management consultancy. The median there is a good 91,000 euros per year. In general, there are a noticeably large number of consulting firms in the top 20 list – six of them.

Median: The median is the mean of a range of numbers and should not be confused with the average. While all values are summed up for the average and then divided by the number of values, the median is calculated differently: You line up the values and then divide them at the point where there are exactly the same number of values larger and smaller. A central advantage of the median: It is robust against values that differ greatly from the others.
A calculation example: We have the numbers 1, 5, 8, 20, 30. The median of these numbers is 8, while the average is 12.8.

Companies from the financial sector are not represented at all. However, this could be explained by the fact that no bonuses or premiums were included in the evaluation. Nine of the highest paying companies come from Germany.

About the method: For the survey, Glassdoor included all the salary information that company employees in Germany provided on the platform between May 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021. In order to be considered for the ranking, the companies had to have received at least 30 entries on the salary during the observation period.
