Without him, Latvian music would not have been imaginable: Imants Kalnins is celebrating his 80th anniversary

“Acacia Sheet”, “Tin Soldiers”, “Four White Shirts”, “Dude”, “Cuckoo’s Voice”, “Lily” and many, many other songs so well known to us are, of course, created by Imants Kalnins. On May 26, the composer will have a beautiful 80th anniversary!

Without “ImKas”, as he is aptly called, Latvian music would not be imaginable. Imants Kalniņš’s work also includes seven symphonies, five cantatas, three operas and oratorios, excellent cinema and theater music, says TV3 Ziņas.

Imants Kalnins does not allow external conditions to influence himself, but for the second year in a row the well-known and beloved “Imantdays” will be missed due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, but the composer is hopeful that next year he and music lovers “ImKas” songs so well known to the people.
