The opening of the La Sardine guinguette, initially scheduled for Thursday, May 27, has been postponed, indicates the City of Orleans this Wednesday. Reason: the level of the Loire is too high and prevents access under the pontoon to install sanitation and drinking water networks.
Blame it on the rise in the level of the Loire
“The plumbing installations of La Sardine cannot be finalized this week because of the rise of the Loire which does not allow access to the connection point on foot or by boat“, writes the town hall of Orléans, which “remain vigilant about the flooding of the Loire in order to be able to install the open-air café as soon as possible.”
Opening on June 1st?
Asked by France Bleu Orléans, Samuel Crombeke, the owner of the oldest open-air café in the city (located on the quai du Châtelet), does not hide his impatience to finally be able to find the public and customers, and evokes a possible reopening on Tuesday, June 1 in 4 p.m. “but without guarantee” : “we are not sure that the level of the river has dropped enough at that time”
