Apple and Spotify have introduced their own payment models for podcasts. What potential do they have and which media will rely on the new offers? MEEDIA asked more than a dozen podcasts and media outlets – and also presents alternatives.


When Apple presented its ambitions to offer podcasts for a fee as a subscription a few weeks ago, it only took a week for Spotify to respond. In the past few years it was often the other way around: The Swedish audio streaming service kept introducing new developments for podcasts, while Apple rested for a long time on the role of market leader. Cupertino then got back to work in mid-April. Podcasters should soon be able to charge for a format. You then have to pay almost 20 euros a year ……
