Increase in cases in Lisbon has already spread to several parishes

The General Directorate of Health presented data for the first time yesterday showing how what started out as a relatively circumscribed increase in cases of covid-19 has spread to more parishes in Lisbon in the last two weeks.

The graphics released by André Peralta Santos, director of information and analysis services at DGS, show that on May 10 there were only three parishes with more than 120 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the municipality (Santa Maria Maior, Misericórdia and Arroios) and only one above 240 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants (Santa Maria Maior, which covers the Alfama, Baixa, Chiado, Castelo, and Mouraria areas).

This Sunday there were already nine parishes above the level of 120 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, being above 240 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants not only Santa Maria Maior but also those that two weeks ago were in yellow.

But if there is now a tendency to reduce cases where it all started, most parishes in Lisbon have a tendency for infections to rise, which also seems to be dispersed in neighboring counties where there is still no parish above 120 cases. per 100 thousand inhabitants.

As Nascer do SOL had already reported, last week only the municipality of Lisbon, as a whole, was approaching the line of 120 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, with the municipalities around it still mostly at the level of 40 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. There was still a tendency for infections to rise in the surrounding counties: in Amadora the incidence had risen 34%, in Loures 76%, in Odivelas 29% and in Sintra 17%.

The maps presented yesterday by André Peralta Santos show that, in Amadora, it is in the parish of Falagueira-Venda Nova, glued to Lisbon, that there is a greater increase in the cumulative incidence 14 days. In Odivelas, there is a more pronounced increase in the incidence in the parish of Pontinha. In Sintra, the parish with the greatest variation is Casal de Cambra. Compared with May 10, the trend is for an increase in more than twice the number of parishes than it was at the time.

Although more than two dozen cases associated with the Sporting festivities have already been signaled, the increase in cases was already coming from behind. “It seems to me a little risky to take measures only for Lisbon, it should be more comprehensive in the metropolitan area”, defended yesterday, on RTP, the infectious disease António Silva Graça.
