Düsseldorf: Christiane collects bottles for the grave of her cat Sloopy | Regional

Düsseldorf – Red roses, candles, your favorite toys and the last photo. Christiane (59) lovingly decorated the grave of her cat Sloopy. She’s been coming here for three years – every day.

Sloopy is buried in the pet cemetery in Düsseldorf-Hamm, which is now celebrating its 20th anniversary.

“I’ll bring her fresh flowers, change the candles,” says Christiane. That costs around 30 euros per week. Money that the kitchen helper does not always have left over in Corona times. “I even collected bottles so that my angel would have a nice time,” she says. Without any shame. “I’m not embarrassed, even if others may smile at it.”

Like her fourth child, Sloopy was to her. More dog than cat. Christiane: “She was always where I was. And she was very cuddly. “

When Sloopy died of cancer in 2018, it was clear that the cat would have a grave. For around 500 euros, my mistress rented a resting place for four years in the animal cemetery (around 200 graves, mostly cats).

“After that I extend the contract, I prefer to do without something else,” says Christiane. “The place gives me strength. Just as the animal gave me strength during my lifetime. “
