Make the hospital more human
The health and well-being of patients is the priority of HUG. Considering each individual in all their human dimensions implies in particular personalized care, continuity of care before, during and after hospitalization. A more human hospital is also a hospital in which patients can play an active role in their care in collaboration with the medico-care team and where shared decision-making becomes the norm.
Adapt to the growth and aging of the population
As a central player in the health system, the HUG must anticipate the consequences of demographic change. The increase and aging of the population increase demand and generate the development of new forms of care and the organization of care in collaboration with network partners.
By 2025, the number of patients in acute care will increase by 8%, and by 12% in chronic care.
Train, attract and retain talent, integrate new professions
The HUG play a major role in promoting healthcare professions. In order to motivate today’s employees and attract those of tomorrow, the HUG is developing an attractive human resources policy, an adapted training offer, optimal working conditions and a modern infrastructure. In addition, the generation born with digital technology is entering the job market. It manifests new expectations in terms of working methods, management and career building. To respond, HUG must adapt managerial methods and offer environments in line with these new needs.
Increase our competitiveness
To face the many challenges that await the HUG, it is essential to improve their competitiveness, both nationally and internationally. In particular, they must adapt to the opening of intercantonal borders which increases patient mobility, to the particularly high private insurance rate among the Geneva population or to the shortage of certain health professions. This implies increasing the scope of their skills and their level of excellence while actively cooperating in research and training. Even closer collaboration with town doctors and the various partners is also essential.
Strengthen collaborations within the Lake Geneva region
The Lake Geneva region is a world center of excellence in the field of health. In this stimulating environment, the HUG are leaders. They must maintain and strengthen this position. This also involves strengthening collaborations with the Biotech Campus, CHUV, EPFL, research centers and companies, as well as the creation of new collaborations.
The health valley Lake Geneva is conducive to innovation and creativity.
Anticipate infrastructure and equipment needs
The HUG are working on the construction, expansion and renovation of many buildings. Likewise, the number of medical equipment is steadily increasing in order to cope with the growing demand and the specialization of care. Finally, the information system has undergone significant development, paving the way for real-time management of care, logistics and administrative processes.
Anticipate the effects of climate change
Climate change and environmental degradation influence the health of the population, in particular the disadvantaged. For the HUG, the challenges are multiple: anticipating the evolution of pathologies and their occurrences, adapting infrastructures to climate change and reducing the direct and indirect CO2 emissions emitted by the hospital.
Every child born today in Switzerland will be affected by climate change.
