Quick reminder of the facts. While American tennis champion Serena Williams was on the Monaco Formula 1 circuit this weekend, RTBF sports consultant Marc Duez (left in the article’s illustration image) held talks inappropriate comments, including: “Serena Williams is going to wave something other than what she used to wave”, but also “Your girlfriend is ugly” about a lady visible on the screen next to the American.
On social networks, many Internet users strongly condemned the words of Mr. Duez, but many others also gave him their support.
This is the case of Thierry De Bournonville (on the right in the photo). The liberal mayor of Stavelot commented on the Facebook page of Free an article relating to the consultant’s comments. “Full support for Marc. We want real Duez and not the sores of RTBééé ”, wrote the burgomaster.
He added on his own page: “Following his eviction from RTBééé Marc Duez went into the bush. Support him. “
Free tried to reach the Stavelotain to question his approach and have his opinion on the remarks of the consultant for the moment suspended. The bourgmestre did not wish to answer our questions.
Contacted by us, Georges-Louis Bouchez preferred not to take a position. “I watch all the Formula 1 GPs and exceptionally I didn’t follow it on RTBF this time around. I have no opinion on the matter. These may not be the most relevant words, but I don’t think it deserves any major controversy. I don’t have much to tell you. I would first have to talk about it with the bourgmestre concerned, and I don’t have to comment on Marc Duez or the other consultants. Our position is that we don’t speak up until we know more about the subject. “
Marc Duez defended himself by means of a press release. He returned distinctly to the controversial remarks and explained “Never having intended to shock”.
