Federico Hernández Hernández and Francisco Escribano Cruz, highest authorities of the Party and the Government in the province of Granma, evaluated as part of the Defense Council the Impacts caused by the heavy rains that occurred this Monday in Manzanillo.
It is estimated that 94.5 millimeters of water fell on the City of the Gulf in just three hours, causing flooding in seven neighborhoods of the city.
“Total and partial collapses can be seen in the popular councils Horacio Rodríguez, Paquito Rosales, Celia Sánchez and Nuevo Manzanillo”Report journalists Cruz Ferrer and Daniel Velázquez.
Other damages can be seen in the public lighting and in the premises of the accumulator factory and areas surrounding the bus terminal and the railroad.
“The most significant thing that always happens in Manzanillo in the face of a meteorological event is the amount of drag, mud, rocks and solid waste that comes down from the upper part to the boardwalk and the lower part.
“In cubic meters they are significant volumes but we work with the people, the administrative structures and with the forces and means of the municipality and the province,” said Federico Hernández Hernández.
The recent meteoric exercise 2021 allowed the rapid activation of defense zones in order to minimize damage and avoid the loss of human life.
Empresa Eléctrica will stabilize service in Manzanillo today
The electrical company Granma is working hard to restore service today in the municipality of Manzanillo, affected yesterday by heavy rains coupled with winds and electric shocks.
Engineer Daniel Solís Prada, specialist in the development of technical management at the electrical company Granma, explained in a television appearance to Frequency 12, that the intense rains that occurred yesterday in this coastal municipality caused several affectations in the electrical service which caused numerous informations in the population.
“Until noon today, 21 complaints were pending resolution, which must be resolved during the day thanks to various work teams that have gone to this city to stabilize the service today,” said Solís Prado.
Yesterday there were no significant interruptions in the transmission networks associated with electricity generation, only these effects due to heavy rains in Manzanillo, which caused trips in several transformers.
Solís Parad commented that the rains are always beneficial because they clean the electrical networks of pollution, not the wind and electrical discharges. To solve these failures, several work groups have been directed to Manzanillo, which will allow the service to be restored today.
Likewise, the Manzanilleros develop actions to restore their city to normality.
For today, no generation deficit is expected in the province, only an impact on the San Francisco circuit, in Manzanillo, associated with maintenance.
For tomorrow, two damages are expected, one in Rosa La Bayamesa, in Bayamo, associated with maintenance of the networks, change of insulation, pruning, and straightening poles.
The municipality of Media Luna will also be affected, whose substations will receive maintenance in their transformers, for which two hours of affectation are calculated.
Prado explained that these maintenance actions allow to give vitality to the system and eliminate risks in the networks and give them greater stability in the face of the proximity of the cyclonic season, which extends from June 1 to November 30.
